Okay, quick question for my readers. I'm mulling over ideas for SILC, and I've settled on possibly doing a spoof of the film-noir type of story with a hardboiled detective and a femme fatale and all that. Which can be really cliche, but I don't really care, as I love that style. Anyways my question is- has this been something widely done in the Sims community? I haven't read a lot of stories, and I don't want to do something too close to what someone else has done. Ideas? Suggestions?

Hey Amelia!
I haven't read anything in the sims community that sounds similar to your idea. Even if there was something similar out there everyone has a different writing/story telling style so they would be able to be classed as the same. I say go for it! ;)
I thought you might be entering A Simply Life into the comp? No?
Btw, I'm going to make a start on reading it this wkend. :)
Hi Jennifer! Thanks so much for the input. That's definitely a good point!
I am not going to be entering A Simple Life because it's not long enough to be considered a series yet and therefore, I wouldn't be able to enter it. Series have to be five parts or more (and I'm still on the first part, haha). So I'm going to do a one shot that has nothing to do with my story, which will be a nice change of pace! I'm looking forward to writing something new. But I'm not abandoning ASL!
Cool, I hope you like it!
Hey Amelia,
As long as you are telling a unique story in your own way, there should be no problem.
I'll have to decide if I'm writing a short for it and what the theme might be. Beyond my usual chaos that is. None of my blogs outside of the short story ones has any starts, ends or thrilling finales. Which leaves them all out.
Ohhh, looky who has gained more followers! Congrats. :)
Aw, PiB, that's not true! I loved your finale with Jerod!
Good luck coming up with something! Finding an idea is always the most difficult part.
The finale with Jerod *was* in one of my two short story blogs. :) I think he clocks in at about 170 pics so I'd have to watch that.
The stories I can't enter are World Adventures with the Grants (good for warm fuzzies, bad for plots or finales), The Adventures with Sims 3 (more an ongoing soap opera with less drama) and Art Flows Through (again, no seasons, no finales and it will be some time before I'd be switching narrators. :) )
Currently working on a new Hi Mum, it's Sammy story. We'll see if I achieve a plot this time. LOL
DUH. I totally misread your first comment. xD
Good luck!
Blargh. Hopefully I can be coherent after playing WAR for two hours and listening to my guildmates scream in my ear. Uuuggghh.
Anywhosits! Off the top of my head, I can only think of one detective story, but it's not really anything like you described... So honestly, GO for it! It sounds like an awesome idea, Amelia. (But I do agree with PiB, that even if it was common I'd love to see your own spin on it.)
And yeah... Desperate Sims barely makes the cut to be entered as a Series because I just got it to 5 parts. I have to say it doesn't make a lot of sense to me because it's not like there's a restriction on how many generations a Legacy has to be in in order to submit, but... I ain't gonna argue with mah boss. ;D
I honestly think you could come up with something awesome with a little extra time, PiB--and since this isn't due until June, you have two whole months to come up with something and write it. I'd love to see a planned and plotted Sammy story!!
Tomorrow I'm gonna work on getting a thorough explanation of the submission process so that may help you guys get a better idea what you want to do.
Honestly, I'm a little tempted to try and come up with a short story to write as well, if I can find the time inbetween SILC stuff and writing Desperate Sims. This is a good time to take a dive and try something different!
Oh well that probably counts me out then, I think. As I'm only finishing up Part 3.
Thanks, guys! You all have been super helpful.
I'm not bummed about not being able to enter ASL, though, because I kind of am looking forward to the chance to broaden my creative efforts. Now I'll get to take everything I've learned about writing and screenshots and apply it to something entirely new, and that prospect is quite exciting for me!
I agree with Kaleeko, PiB! Your stories are really awesome and I bet you'll come up with something great.
I agree with the others, I think you should do it. And you too, PiB!!
Thanks, Cheezy!
I think pretty much the same as the other ladies have said. I always enjoy what you write and come up with any ways!
