Brief Note

In a somewhat ironic twist of fate, my OWN house caught fire. No serious damage, but I think the better part of tomorrow/this week will be spent cleaning, so the next update and the first part of the Maltese Llama will be delayed by a few days.

As a side note, you really should remember to change the batteries in your fire alarms and get a fire extinguisher. We didn't so much... Had to rely on my sister to dump water all over everything. If she hadn't been out there to get a snack for our Harry Potter night, shit might have been worse. So yeah- they tell you to do those things for a reason.

Wow. So glad to hear there wasn't much damage. We had fire alarms in our last house but I'm not sure about this one.

I've started writing the short story for silc but not much to advertise till I'm ready to take pics for it. Hard to do a teaser for a short without giving something away.

We HAVE a fire alarm, but haven't changed the batteries since moving in. I highly advise doing so, if you haven't. I shudder to think what would have happened if my sister hadn't thought to use the sink's spray nozzle!

It IS really hard to make a teaser. To be honest, my one for TML is reallyyy half-assed. I don't even know how half of the trailer is even going to apply to the story. I have been working on the first post, however, so it'll be up probably later this week. It'll be a six-parter, so I'm hoping to average a post a week.

Good luck with yours!! I'm really excited to see what you come up with.

:) I really hate the posting rules for short stories. Could probably have written 2 or 3 in the complete timeframe but I would go to pieces waiting for the official posting date range.

So one Sam story is all they get. I've only just started writing, but I think it will entertain.

LOL - When you first mentioned your idea, I thought about turning the genre on its little head. The detective is a hard boiled female. The 'damsel in distress' is the guy... well you get the picture. Don't be surprised if I write a story like that at some point.

That's a fantastic idea! I contemplated it for a bit, but I just really loved the character I had in mind. I'd love to read something like that! It's about time noir got a feminine facelift.

Oh my ggaaawwwddd!!! I can't believe your house caught on fire!!! Was it a stove fire, then? (I can't count the number of times I've lit crap on fire on my stove because I forgot to turn an element off and dropped a towel or something over it. XD)

That's really freaking scary, though. I'm glad there wasn't too much damage and that your sis caught it in time, but it definitely is the type of thing that makes you reevaluate the safety code in your house, LOL!

I feel pretty safe myself, luckily, because even though I have a habit of melting tupperware on my stovetop and all manner of stupidities, we have a security system in our house; we get a phone call if anything on our detectors are abnormal, and even when the batteries die. ;D Ha!
